So you found your perfect breed....now you want to raise the perfect puppies to better the breed!
My journey started when we added our first Goldendoodle, Savie! My partner wanted to get his daughter a dog. My mind immediately started searching for what the best breed would be and it didn't take long to come up with a Goldendoodle. I knew I didn't want to have our floors covered in hair and wanted a dog that was smart and easy to train.
After researching the different types of Goldendoodles, we settled on one that had more poodle than retriever. Then the hard part came and that was finding a breeder. I want to add that I wish I had done more research on what a reputable breeder was, but we'll get into that on another post!
We brought home Savie Mae! She was sweet, loving, smart, and quirky. The perfect addition to our family! After she grew up, my love for Goldendoodles started to take flight and I knew that I wanted to raise puppies to not just be like her, but to be better! I started researching how to become a breeder and purchased the "Bad Ass Breeder" book by Jeanette Forrey. I read the whole book in a matter of hours and felt deep in my soul, this was the path I wanted to pursue.
After 3 years of research, I added 2 more goldendoodles to my program and started my search on finding the right stud to use. I used my knowledge from the DNA genetics I had done and matched them with those that potential studs had to make sure their puppies would not be at risk.
Savie had her first litter of mini goldendoodles a year ago and it was a whirlwind of emotions. I was terrified that I didn't have what it takes to raise brand new babies to grow into amazing companion pets. But to my surprise, 1 of her puppies went on to train as a therapy dog to alert her owner on the onset of health conditions she was diagnosed with. She passed with flying colors and that pushed me even harder.
Unfortunately, Savie developed health issues and as a reputable breeder, I made the decision to retire her from my program and have her spayed. I was devastated not only for her but for my program, she had the perfect disposition to pass on to her puppies.
Fast forward 3 years later, I have added 3 more Goldendoodles. 2 were purchased from amazing reputable breeders and 1 was a puppy that I put in a guardian home from Sadie's first litter. They each were highly sought after puppies with perfect genetic health and temperament, something I strive to add in my program. I learn something different with each litter and will continue to follow my dream to better the breed that the Goldendoodle name has.
